Based in Jersey, and with a very experienced team of instructors/commercial skippers on hand to train you, Le Mourier Powerboat School delivers a number of exciting and challenging RYA courses and private charter experiences on the water.

Using our fleet of  top of the range teaching boats, and boasting more experience in the field than any other Channel Island provider, Le Mourier is one of the leading RYA schools in the United Kingdom for the provision of the Intermediate and Advanced Powerboat courses.

RYA Level 1 Powerboat course (8 years +) 1 day

A one day introduction into Powerboating techniques for the complete novice. The course focuses on:

  • Launch and recovery
  • Preparation of the boat and crew
  • Boat handling
  • Picking up and securing to a mourning buoy
  • Leaving and coming alongside
  • Being towed

RYA Level 2 Powerboat Course (12 years +) 2 day

By a long way the RYA’s most popular course, the National Powerboat Certificate (PB2) is designed for a range of abilities: from the novice up to those who have some experience at sea but want to gain more ability and confidence. 

This is a wide-ranging powerboat course, covering a lot of topics, and some of the key skills taught include:

  • Focusing on low speed close quarters handling
  • Man over board recovery
  • Planing speed manouvers
  • Launch and recovery
  • Coming alongside
  • Tying to a buoy 
  • Collision regulations 
  • Basic Navigation & Chart work & Tides
  • Short Passage planning
  • Understanding and using a GPS Plotter

RYA Intermediate Powerboat Course  (16yrs+)  2 days

This course is perfect for the Channel Islands boat owner! A challenging and enjoyable way to improve your abilities on the water, we use our fantastic 8.5m 400hp commercial RIB to introduce more advanced handling techniques and run a navigation exercise around the island, often as far as Les Ecrehous or Les Minquiers reefs. 

If you already own boat and you would like to increase your confidence and your ability to cruise further afield then this is the course for you.  Building on the knowledge gained in the Powerboat Level 2 course, the Intermediate course will increase your knowledge of:

  • Passage Planning
  • Cruising at planing speeds
  • More advance boat handling
  • Charts
  • Tides
  • Electronic Navigation
  • Local & French cruising advice and experience

RYA Advanced Powerboat Course – (17yrs +) 2 days and one nighttime exercise 

Aimed at experienced leisure boaters and those seeking to work afloat commercially, the Advanced Course is challenging and exhilarating in equal measure. This really adds to a skipper’s knowledge and ability, and successful attendees receive the coveted RYA Advanced Course certificate.

The course addresses areas such as night navigation, advanced powerboat navigation, rough water handling and search and rescue techniques patterns.

This is a challenging course for which it is assumed that candidates have a strong ability at the helm of a powerboat and theoretical knowledge to Intermediate Powerboat Course/Day Skipper level.
